PRESS RELEASE

Rachel John

A Blue Skies Thinker

Rachel John is the orignator of the Extreme Textiles products including Extreme Knitting, Extreme Crochet and Extreme Tunisian Crochet. Her influences in yarn and wood craft in the last 5 years have spread like wild fire becoming a worldwide influence in much textiles practice from UK to Australia, across the USA, Asia, the Easterns and Europe.

Already many designers, manufacturers and home crafters are taking up the inspiration of Rachel's work to educate, enthuse and to be creative.

Rachel is the original thinker and inspiration behind all Extreme and Big Knit projects seen today. For instance: the knitted boat and The Big Knit Project with Ingrid Wagner. Ingrid came to our workshops, she'd never seen anything like it, and was so inspired she still feels the need to seek creative ideas from Rachel - both in words and deeds. The Big Stitch Book by Becca Smith - again Becca still seeks inspiration from Rachel's work online.

In the next year you will see more of Extreme/Big Knit projects across the globe.

And remember - if you want to know what is the next thing in this rather extraordinary new thinking - then watch these pages on a regular basis and get  inspired!

Rachel is THE original thinker of

Extreme Textiles.

Rachel on the 1st in the world example of a carpet rug made using 150 strand Extreme Knitting - Moonlit Rainbow colourway is based on a rainbow seen under moonlight as opposed to sunlight - a natural phenomena not often seen as it occurs under bright moonlight when raining and when most people sleep.

One of a collection of experimental - and entirely functional - combined art and craft pieces made during a 5 year period of creative research and personal development. During the years of 2000 to 2005 Rachel first came up with the idea for Extreme Textiles. The key to this thinking is the use of up to a 1000 strands of different fibre to create very thick mixed fibre yarns and ropes.
